The Joyful Faculty & Staff
Kay Albrecht grew up on a ranch in La Veta, Colorado, where she began playing piano at age 5.  After receiving her degree from Adams State College, Kay began teaching music in Pueblo, CO.
A 30 year career in music education took her from Colorado to Fairfax County Virginia, where she received her Orff Schulwerk specialization at George Mason University.
Kay moved to Green Valley in 1996 and became Director of Music at Valley Presbyterian Church in 1998.  She founded the Joyful Noise Academy, as a music outreach ministry, in 2008.

Marie Valade refined her skills in musical theater and opera as a vocal performance major at Michigan State University. She has performed in civic, summer stock, and dinner theaters in Michigan for forty years, and has appeared in three productions in Green Valley – most recently as Truvy in the 2010 Valley Players production of Steel Magnolias. Marie has also been teaching private voice lessons for over twenty-five years.  Marie created and directed writing and drama seminars for Ludington Michigan Schools’ gifted children’s program, worked as Music Director for West Shore Community College’s College for Kids, and was Music Director for the WSCC community theater for four productions.

Marie and her husband moved to Green Valley in 2007, and Marie remains enthusiastic about working with music students. As a member of Valley Presbyterian Church, she is excited about her involvement with the Joyful Noise Academy and her role in promoting its mission.

Lynne Szabo has been involved with children, young people and families most of her life.  As a librarian, teacher, counselor and psychotherapist she has worked in education, private practice and the corporate world. She moved to Green Valley in 2003 to take a position with Pima Community College as Director of Libraries.

Lynne has enjoyed working in education as an elementary and secondary teacher and librarian. Part of her time was spent teaching English, German and Science. The most rewarding experience was as a school counselor and psychotherapist.

Lynne has developed her managerial skills in diverse areas.
She holds a Master’s degree in Library Science, Organizational Development and Clinical Psychology.

Lynne Szabo, Administrative Director

Joan Bell Dakin taught music throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for twenty years, incorporating the joyful song, rhythm, movement and instrument playing of Orff Schulwerk. She was active in the Northern California Orff Schulwerk Association, including a stint as president of the board. After her certification in Orff, she received a grant to study at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria for two weeks one summer.

Four years ago, she retired from her work as an elementary music specialist in Martinez Unified School District and moved to Green Valley with her husband. At Valley Presbyterian, she sings in the choir, plays with the Orff Angels, and plays guitar in the Praise Band for "The Source." She also teaches beginning guitar to adults through Green Valley Recreation.
